A surprise Harry Potter cake!

One of the most important things that I believe Cakes by B offers, aside from delicious and beautiful cakes of course, is the personalized customer experience.  The cake I made recently is a perfect example of this.  I receive an email from a husband that wanted to surprise his wife.  His wife is usually the one that comes to me with the family cake requests and she takes great care to make sure they get a cake that they will love.  Here are some examples of cakes she has chosen for them.

MinecraftBadgeOnce Upon A Time Beautiful right?  Well her husband wanted to do something equally special, as a surprise, for her.  Since she is a huge Harry Potter fan this is what we came up with.

Harry Potter Gryffindor

But the surprises didn’t stop there!  When she cut into the cake this is what she saw…

Gryffindor Checkerboard

The cake itself was checkerboard pattern in Gryffindor colors!

Overall a beautiful cake for a wonderful lady.

Well, I love customer feed back and, as I said at the beginning of this post, I aim for wonderful and personal customer service every time.  So the day after the birthday party I received this message from the guest of honor:

“Bridgid,

The Harry Potter cake you made as a SURPRISE for my birthday today was fabulous!!!! I am constantly blown away by your beautiful creations, but I must tell you to be the one the cake was for was such a treat! And my favorite part…. my husband cut into the cake and it was checkerboard Gryffindor colors!!! The cake was beautiful, it was delicious, and I loved it!!! Thank you so much for making it!! I can’t wait to see what you will make for us next!!”

I think I succeeded this time.  🙂

Happy Birthday Melissa!

First Birthday Parties!

First birthday parties are so much fun!  They are a celebration of a little one’s first birthday and a celebration of the parents of that little one surviving the first year.  Hurray!  This is also, usually, the only opportunity the parents have to have complete control on the theme, design, and cake!  So why not have fun with it?

The most recent first birthday party that Cakes by B was able to create for was for a precious little girl.  The theme of the party was pinwheels and the cake of choice was chocolate cupcakes.

Beautiful and delicious!

But Cakes by B wasn’t done there!  You CAN’T have a first birthday without a smash cake for the little one!

And this little girl knew how to get right into her smash cake!  That is the way to do it!

Because Cakes by B is such a strong believer in letting every one year old have their very own smash cake, it is included with your order for FREE!  That’s right, the first cake your child gets to completely destroy is on the house.  So check out all that Cakes by B has to offer and order your child’s birthday cake from us!

February’s Flavor of the Month!

February is a month filled with passion, romance, love, and CHOCOLATE!

What cake can possibly sum all of that up?

The Devil’s Delight!

The Devil's Delight

Two layers of moist Devil’s Food cake, filled with a cool and creamy chocolate mousse, and topped with a spicy ancho chile chocolate frosting.

Yep, that about sums up the month of February!

Keep your eye out because Cakes by B will be offering lots of beautiful and delicious treats for Valentine’s Day.

A fun new cake trend!

There are a couple of fun cake trends right now that, when put together, make for a beautiful cake!

An ombre cake is one that has a gradation, from dark to light or light to dark, of any color.

Ombre Ruffles

A rose cake is a cake that has been completely covered in icing rosettes.

Put these two techniques together and you get a beautiful Ombre Rose cake!

This cake is great as is, or you can add your own personal touch.   I just delivered this particular one to a young lady’s birthday party at Rol-A-Rink skating center in High Point.

It is Red Velvet cake, Cream Cheese icing filling, and Vanilla Buttercream frosting.

She was having a snowflake themed birthday party so I added some white chocolate snowflakes!

Pick your favorite cake, filling, and frosting flavors and your favorite color and PRESTO, you have a perfect cake for your next celebration!

January’s Flavor of the Month!

This year I decided to have a little fun and have a featured “Flavor of the Month”!

The feature for January is…..

PEANUT BUTTER CUP!

The Peanut Butter Cup Cake is a moist peanut butter cake that is layered with a creamy peanut butter and cream cheese filling and drenched in a thick chocolate ganache, and then topped with pieces of peanut butter cups.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

You could enjoy this with friends or loved ones as a cake or have some quiet solitary time with it as a cupcake or cake truffle.  Any way you have it you won’t be disappointed.

Now I know that come January most of us set goals to be healthy and that is nobel.  However, let’s be honest, when we are faced with the bitter cold that January brings, what we REALLY want is to curl up in sweats, under a warm blanket, and dive into something that is comforting and warms our soul.  THIS IS IT!

A baby shower for a fun client!

There is this terrific family that KNOWS how to throw a great party when they have something to celebrate!  I was first contacted by a woman from this family two years ago because she was having a retirement party for her dad.  But not just any ordinary retirement party…a 500 guest formal shindig at the Grandover Resort!  So, of course the cake could not just be any ordinary cake.

UPS Retirement

Well a few months ago I was contacted by this wonderful lady again because she had something else to celebrate…she is pregnant!!!  A plan was in the works to revel the gender to her family and she wanted to do it with cake.  How fun!

IT’S A GIRL!!!

So, of course, with a baby girl on the way, there must be a baby shower fit for this family.  They had the shower at 200 Steele in High Point, which was a gorgeous setting!  The shower’s them was “Under the Sea” and she had beautiful invitations, so I wanted to take inspiration from both and create a wonderful cake for her.

Congratulations Wilson Family!  I can’t wait to see what you do for her first birthday!
